Chest Ultrasound is also known as Thoracic Ultrasound, it is a harmless imaging test that uses high frequency sound waves to create a real –time images of the structures inside of the chest, particularly the pleural space, lungs and diaphragm. Unlike Chest X – Rays or CT scans, Chest Ultrasound doesn’t use radiation, which makes it useful for bedside assessments, repeat evaluations and sensitive populations like pregnant women or critically ill patients.

No, it’s painless and non – invasive. You will not experience any kind of pain from the test.

No, there is no special preparation needed before the test. You may be asked to wear loose clothes or remove the garments from the upper body for better access.

It takes 10-20 minutes for this test, but maybe longer for some patients whose are combined with a guided procedure like Thoracentesis.
